Monitoringclub.org – The car has been equipped with car airbags for the purpose of driver safety. Airbags is often found when in the movie scenes that feature accidents. In fact, there have been many video simulations explaining how car airbags work.
What Are Car Airbags?
Airbags is a car safety system designed to protect passengers from injury due to collisions. This system is one part of the body support system (body restraint system).
It consists of several interlocking parts, such as seatbelts, airbags, and seatbelt pretensioners.
Airbags are made of strong and durable nylon fabric. The front of the car usually has two airbags, namely airbags for the driver and airbags for the front passengers.
Some cars are also equipped with airbags on the sides to protect passengers from side impact. As well as airbags at the rear to protect second row passengers.
Car airbags are located on the dashboard or next to the driver and front passenger seats. When an impact occurs, the airbag system will immediately activate and emit gases that make the airbag grow large.
Then it will cover the front of the driver’s or passenger’s body. Thus, airbags can reduce the severity of injuries caused by impacts.
The airbag system is one of the latest innovations in the automotive field that has saved many lives. As well as prevent the occurrence of severe injuries to the passengers of the car.
However, though airbags is a very important security system. There are several things to note in order airbags can work optimally. For example, the seat belt must be worn correctly in order for the airbag to work effectively.
Besides that, airbags must always be in good condition and well maintained in order to work optimally when needed.
Airbag Function
Airbags are a part of the body restraint system. In cars that function to protect passengers from injury due to collisions.
Airbags are located on the dashboard or next to the driver and front passenger seats. And it can also be found on the sides and back of the car.
The function of the airbag is to protect the passenger’s body when an impact occurs. When an impact occurs, the airbag system will immediately activate and emit gas. This gas makes the airbag grow large and covers the front of the driver’s or passenger’s body.
Therefore, airbags can reduce the severity of injuries caused by impact.
Besides that, airbags also serves as an additional safety for passengers when using a seatbelt. A seat belt is the most common body support system used in cars.
But sometimes seatbelt not able to provide sufficient protection in the event of a very hard impact. Airbags cooperates with the seatbelt in providing protection to passengers in the event of a collision.
Airbags also has a preventive function. In the event of an impact, the airbag system will activate before any injury to the passenger. Thus, airbags can prevent the occurrence of injuries to passengers.
Overall, the function of airbags is to reduce the severity of injuries caused by impact. Provides additional protection for passengers when using a seatbelt
As well as preventing injury to passengers. Thus, the airbag is one of the latest innovations in the automotive field. It has saved many lives and prevented serious injuries to car occupants.
How Do Car Airbags Work?
The way car airbags work consists of several stages, such as:
Collision Detection
The airbag system uses sensors located on the front, sides, and rear of the car to detect any impact. When an impact occurs, the sensor will send a signal to the airbag control unit located under the dashboard of the car.
System Activation
After receiving the signal from the sensor, the airbag control unit will activate the airbag system. At the same time, the control unit will also activate the seatbelt pretensioner. This serves to pull the seatbelt quickly when an impact occurs.
Inflator opening
When the airbag system is activated, the inflator will emit nitrogen gas. Nitrogen gas will make airbags grow large and cover the front of the body of the driver or passenger. The inflator is located on the back of the airbag and is connected to the nylon fabric material in front of it.
Airbag Deployment
When the inflator releases nitrogen gas, the airbags will grow large and cover the front of the body of the driver or passenger. The Airbags will continue to expand until the pressure inside reaches equilibrium with the outside pressure.
Gas Storage
After the airbag is filled with nitrogen gas, it will be stored in the airbag until the airbag system is reactivated.
System Deactivation
After the airbag has emitted nitrogen gas and covered the front of the driver’s or passenger’s body. The airbag system will be deactivated immediately.
When the airbag system is deactivated, the airbag will return to its original size. The nylon fabric material contained in front of it will return to its original shape.
Overall, the way car airbags work is to detect collisions. Then, activating the airbag system and seatbelt pretensioner, emitting nitrogen gas that will make the airbag grow large and cover the front.
Therefore, always check your airbag system. Because damage will make the airbag malfunction.
